CWA United

CWA 1037 and CWA 1040 have formed CWA United in order to join together with direct care and service workers from throughout New Jersey, so we could tackle the big issues that face us all like winning better Healthcare and decent Wages. Choosing a career caring for others shouldn’t mean that you must sacrifice caring for yourself and your family!

Attention All Sponsors: We have a Tentative Agreement on an Interim Contract

The Contract will be from now until 6/30/2011

It provides for recognition of the Union, a Grievance Procedure (Dispute Resolution Procedure), and for $500 bonuses per residential client. The contract also provides that if there are any COLAs on skill pay providers will get them as well, and providers will receive increases if there are any to the Social Security payments.

We will negotiate over the rates in the next contract.

You can read the entire agreement here: MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT

You can vote on this agreement by calling 973-320-9124 and following the instructions. You can vote until Monday at noon.

After the Contract is ratified, we will mail you a complete copy of the agreement with instructions as to how to reach out for a union representative if you need assistance and instructions about joining the union.

OLDER NEWS

Bargaining Dates Scheduled

The State has finally scheduled dates with our CWA Bargaining Committee to negotiate over a contract for community care providers. See the leaflet for more information and for updates on the fight for affordable healthcare and the upcoming Governor’s election.

Sponsors & Respite Providers: A Call To Action

The CWA Bargaining Committee has been ready to begin negotiations since early spring, but unfortunately, the Committee has still not had its first session with the
State’s representatives. After repeated demands for negotiations dates, the State finally responded in late spring, saying they would forward dates for negotiations, but that still has not happened. Sponsors and respite providers must now turn up the heat to bring the State to the bargaining table. The CWA Bargaining Committee is calling upon sponsors and respite providers from throughout the State to participate in a Day of Action on Friday, August 14 to demand that the State negotiate with our Committee. All providers are asked to contact Governor Corzine by phone or e-mail on the 14th to ask that the State negotiate now in good faith.

CWA Members Fighting for Healthcare:

CWA members from all over the country have been fighting locally and on the road for real healthcare reform. Recently, the fight brought thousands of union members to Washington, DC for a Healthcare Rally and Lobby Day on June 25th. CWA members are fighting for healthcare reform that
meets the following priorities:
1) Employers should be responsible for covering their workers (and if not
they should have to contribute to a public trust that covers those
without employer coverage).
2) Guarantee coverage for pre-Medicare eligible retirees.
3) Guarantee people a choice of private and public health insurance plans.
4) Not tax the health care benefits of working families.

Calling on all providers!

Do you have a story that illustrates the changes that are needed for community care residential providers in New Jersey? Maybe it’s a story about a difficulty you have encountered in getting appropriate services or about roadblocks to quality service you have encountered over the years. Maybe it’s a story that demonstrates the importance of community care providers to the clients they care for every day. Share your story about the work you do – stories will be featured in future newsletters and used by the Bargaining Committee in negotiations to give examples of the truth behind our Committee’s demands. Submit your story through the CWA United Website or in print by faxing it to 609-538-8868 or 973-623-3777.
